Why charge deposits in your salon (and how to stop no-shows)
An empty chair from a no-show is a double loss: the treatment does not happen and you usually cannot fill the slot in time. A deposit changes that. Work out below what no-shows cost you per year and see how much of it you keep.

What do no-shows cost you per year?
Move the sliders and instantly see how much revenue you lose to no-shows - and how much of it you keep with deposits.
Average number of booked appointments each week
Share of appointments where the client does not turn up
Average revenue per appointment, including VAT
Amount the client pays up front via iDEAL or credit card
With deposits you keep €5,400 of that per year, even when the client does not show up.
Note: this is purely the amount you collect on a no-show. In practice, deposits usually reduce the number of no-shows too, because paying up front creates a clear commitment - how much varies per salon.
Indicative calculation based on 50 working weeks per year. Your real figures depend on your client base, prices and cancellation policy.

Deposits via iDEAL, Mollie and Stripe - straight to your own account
Clients pay their deposit at booking via iDEAL, credit card or other local methods. The money goes straight to your own Mollie or Stripe account, not to a middleman. Salonnare charges no commission per booking: you pay a fixed monthly fee and keep the rest yourself.
Automatic reminders reduce forgotten appointments
Alongside the deposit, Salonnare automatically sends a confirmation email and an email reminder before the appointment. Many no-shows are simply forgotten appointments; a timely reminder helps clients arrive on time or reschedule in time.
No-show and deposit flows that handle themselves
If a client does not show up, you mark the appointment as a no-show and the deposit is kept and recorded in the daily report. If the client cancels in time (for example within 24 hours), Salonnare automatically refunds the deposit via SEPA. No manual refunds.
Configurable per treatment
You decide per service whether a deposit is required and how large: a fixed amount or a percentage of the price. For a short cut you might set no deposit, for a long colour or nail treatment you would. That keeps the barrier low where it can be and protects your calendar where it matters.
A fair model, built for the European market
Salonnare runs on a fixed monthly fee with no commission per booking - from €0 per month on the Free plan (1 staff member, 50 bookings per month), €29 for Starter and €59 for Pro. iDEAL and Mollie for local payments, Stripe for cards, all to your own account. Client data sits GDPR-compliant on EU servers, with per-staff permissions and the app in 5 languages. See the pricing or read more about us.

Why a no-show costs more than just the missed treatment
A no-show does not only cost you the revenue of that one treatment. The slot is often freed up too late to be rebooked, while your staff member is still standing by. For colour and nail treatments you have often already prepared products or done preparatory work. Count those costs and the real damage per no-show is higher than the bare treatment price. The calculator above deliberately uses the treatment price as a floor, so you get a conservative, defensible estimate.
How a deposit works in Salonnare
You set a deposit per service as a fixed amount or a percentage. The client pays it when booking online via iDEAL or credit card, straight to your own Mollie or Stripe account. The deposit is settled against the final invoice for the completed treatment. If the client does not show up, you keep the amount; if the client cancels within the window you set, it is automatically refunded via SEPA. Everything is recorded in the daily report so your bookkeeping stays correct.
Setting up deposits without scaring clients off
A deposit does not have to be a barrier. Keep the amount reasonable - a deposit of 30 to 50%, or a fixed amount in proportion to the treatment, is usually enough. Communicate your cancellation policy clearly on the booking page so clients know when they get their deposit back. And make rescheduling easy: those who can move in time do not need to stay away. That lowers no-shows without raising the barrier to book. See all features to see how booking, payment and reminders work together. Frequently asked questions about deposits and no-shows
How do I work out what no-shows cost me?
Use the calculator at the top of this page. Enter your number of appointments per week, your estimated no-show rate and your average treatment price. Based on 50 working weeks per year, the calculator works out how much revenue you lose per month and per year, and how much of it you keep at a given deposit percentage.
Do deposits really reduce no-shows?
A required deposit acts in practice as a clear commitment threshold: clients who pay up front show up more reliably or cancel in time. How much your no-shows fall exactly varies per salon, client base and price segment - which is why we do not quote a fixed percentage. What is certain: on a no-show you keep the deposit, so you are covered either way.
Where does the deposit end up?
Straight into your own account. Deposits run through your own Mollie or Stripe account. Salonnare does not sit in between and charges no commission per booking - you only pay the fixed monthly fee of your plan.
What happens if a client cancels in time?
The deposit is automatically refunded via SEPA. You set the window yourself (for example up to 24 hours in advance). Cancelling within that window means money back; after that, or on a no-show, you keep the deposit.
Can I decide per treatment whether a deposit is required?
Yes. Per service you switch a deposit on or off and choose a fixed amount or a percentage. So you can require a deposit for a long colour treatment but not for a short cut.
Which payment methods are supported?
iDEAL and other local methods via Mollie, and card payments via Stripe. Both integrate directly with the booking widget for deposits. That way the client books and pays in one flow, without creating an account.
